Salamander Deaths by Bsal Fungus
The most lethal weapon employed by humans to kill wildlife, in my view, has been what I have called Water Wars for several years. Hunting weapons have been used to drive some species toward extinction in a small number of cases, but such weapons have been inconsequential compared with oxygen deprivation inflected by altering ecologic conditions.
In my Oxygen Wars Series, I describe mass deaths of butterflies, bees, bats, frogs, and salamanders caused by the overgrowth of oxygen-hating fungi. Here I narrate new threats to salamanders by fungus Bsal.
