Cholesterol Is Essential for Cellular Health
Majid Ali, M.D.
So Says the New England Journal of Medicine. Consider the following quote from an article published in the Journal on November 8, 2012 (367:1792-1802):
“Cholesterol is a fundamental structural component of mammalian cell membranes and is essential for cellular proliferation. Statins inhibit the production of endogenous cholesterol and block protein prenylation, and statin use may therefore influence cell proliferation and migration.”
Of course, when cells cannot proliferate (multiply) they cannot be healthy. Now what does this abput the enthusiasm for lowering blood cholesterol at any cost?
